The Key to Getting Results Through People

from Christine Harvey

When I was in Japan, I had the privilege of meeting a woman who had been advisor to five Prime Ministers. Since I was writing ‘In Pursuit of Profit’ at the time, I asked her this question: “What advice would you give people who really want to get results in business?”

The answer she gave me was so simple, but so powerful, that I’ve never forgotten it. In fact, I always go back to it whenever I need to get results through people.

Here’s her answer: “What I’ve discovered in life is this - never write to people if you can speak with them by phone, and never speak by phone, if you can see them in person.”

That’s food for thought, isn’t it. Simple but powerful.

30 Second Results Tip: Stop now and ask yourself what roadblock you seem to have in any particular project or goal. Now ask yourself this? What action can I take through talking to someone personally – either by phone or in person - rather than writing? In today’s world where email has become the rule rather than the exception, person touch has been lost. Let’s take advantage of the advice of the advisor to five Prime Ministers, and go back to the person touch for results. Pick up that phone, or make that appointment, and see the magic that materializes!

If you decide to try this today and you get surprising results, please comment. We would like to quote YOUR success in a future Business Tip to help others in their journey to results.

Until then, best of success in YOUR adventures in life!

How the Art of Positive Reinforcement Will Pay You 10-Fold

Want magic in your life today? You've heard how giving money will come back to you 10-fold - well what about giving positive feedback to people, and see what comes back?

I'll never forget a networking meeting I attended in London in which the leader asked this question - how can you get rid of stress in 1 minute? Her answer was to give another person a compliment. We then had one minute to compliment the stranger next to us - and presto - it worked like magic. We all felt lighter and happier.

Thereafter in my training courses, I experimented with enlarging this concept.

"Show people the best in themselves, and they will follow you anywhere," was my adage. It became a leadership doctrine that I was brought in to teach the military and corporations around the world.

Here's my question to you today:
How hard is it to hold a mirror up to someone with your words of positive reinforcement, and reflect their potential? Or as my business partner Liz Uible would say - "Show someone a promising future ahead based on their unique strengths."

It's not hard at all - simply listen to people talk about their achievements or challenges, and as you listen, let your heart and mind see a strength in them.

For example, if Judy was Chair of her Trade Association, you probably see leadership skills in her, or maybe organizational skills, or maybe people skills. You simply need to say, "Judy, I see wonderful leadership strengths in you." - How hard is that!!! Really - think about it. Is that something you can do with little or no effort? Can you do that in 10 seconds or less? Of course you can, and the impact on Judy is enormous! But here's the point. Few people do this. Few people know the power of assisting the world in this way.

Imagine being on the receiving end. Wouldn't you like to get this input about your unique talents and strengths? Of course you would. By hearing this, your confidence goes up. You start to see yourself in a new light.

And what about the return to you? That's easy too. People immediately see you as a leader. People have faith in you. When you show people the best in themselves, they will follow you anywhere!

New horizons will open up for you. New opportunities will materialize. Wealth creation can not be achieved alone. You need a team - whether it be supporters, or suppliers. If you want loyalty, start now to develop this ability to show people the best in themselves through Positive Reinforcement. Show them their unique strengths and talents. "Mary, I see great organizational strengths in you." This 10-second sentence will reap you rewards 10 times over. Not just in leadership, but instantly in feeling good about helping another human being. And by boosting another human being, you're boosting the world.

10 Second Focus Tip: Today listen in a new way as people talk. When you hear them talk of an achievement, or how they handled a challenge, look for the unique ability or strength they used. Then tell them. "Bob, when I hear you talk about your challenge with your teenager, I admire the dedication you have in making that relationship the best it can be." Then stand back and watch the positive reaction you get. Start today - develop this art and your life will unfold in magical new ways.

If you're a member of the Prosperity Teams™ starting this week, you'll have plenty of opportunities to practice this. But don't wait - get started now - practice with everyone you meet and everyone you speak to by phone!

Who is Supporting YOUR Success?

from Christine Harvey

Since Liz Uible and I met in 2005 , we've been developing systems, programs and articles for women's success.

If you've read John Grey's book 'Men Are From Mars and Women Are From Venus,' you know that men and women process differently. Women thrive in special environments of bouncing ideas off others and having a supportive group behind them, achieving together.

In addition, we've researched role-models and training methods that inspire women and lead to true prosperity. In the early days of our product and course development, we were fortunate to have the support of creative people like Juli Butler, Emily Cressey and Cecelia Lance. Word spread quickly about these tools and now our membership network extends from the US to South Africa and beyond.

Today we're announcing our latest powerhouse in achieving together, Prosperity Teams™. While some people lovingly refer to this as 'a mastermind on steroids,' they are actually quite different.

The new Prosperity Teams™ start next week & run for 90 days. There is a start date and an end date. People are clustered by interest area- Business, Personal, or Real Estate Success. Also, the trademarked process of POA, Powerhouse of Your Achievements, creates a bond and platform for utilizing the Professional Women's Network.

Most of all, in Prosperity Team™ members take responsibility for each other's success. This is done through a specialized structure, incorporating the creativity and support of others in 3 areas:

1) Through the POA™, Powerhouse of Your Achievements, highlighted above

2) Through Prosperity Exercises™ on goals, overcoming obstacles, and business skills

3) Through Prosperity Solutions™ - a dynamic team interplay which produces extraordinary possibilities.

Prosperity Teams™ are also different from mastermind groups in that there are component parts of each meeting. One component for example utilizes the 3 C's - contacts, credibility and creativity. As a Team member you are able to draw upon the creativity of the group to solve any obstacle you have in your way. Likewise you are able to utilize the contacts and credibility of others in your team to reach the highest of your goals fast.

You may wonder how you will fit in with a group of people you don't know. That's a viable question. One part of our unique process is the built in methodology which enables you to identify your own key successes in life to date and to let others help you identify your unique talents quickly and easily. In doing so, they quickly bond with you and visa versa so that your team platform is solidly and effectively built from the first phone meeting.

We would love to have you (and the people you care about) join in this adventure to success. The cost for this 90-day program is included in the $14.97 monthly membership- that's only $3.74 per session, less than a Starbuck's coffee, and you get propelled to your financial goal. And it's cancelable any time if satisfaction is not achieved. How's that for a guarantee!!!

To sign up to join a Prosperity Team™, click here.

WANT EVEN MORE SUPPORT? What if you have a group of friends and colleagues who you would like to propel to a whole new level? We can even help you start your own Prosperity Team™!!!.

As Connie Kadansky, member from Phoenix said, "I brought in 3 friends and colleagues because it intensifies the fun and energy of the group. More importantly, we can support each other between sessions by referring to the Prosperity Exercises even if we are on different Prosperity Teams™."

If you want to bring friends and colleagues in to support you, just have them click here or you can Email Liz@WomenForWealth.com for more information.

A Woman Can Do ANYTHING!

from Christine Harvey

Recently a friend’s daughter asked her, “Mom, can a woman be President of America?” My friend replied, “Of course,” at which point she went to her book case and pulled down a copy of my book, Can a Girl Run for President? “Here,” she said, “this is written for grow-ups, but I’ll read it with you.” And she proceeded to read her daughter the success stories of women around the world.

That woman has the right perspective. Here’s a question for YOU. Who are the women and girls in your life who are important to you? And more importantly, how are you mentoring such that they know a girl can do anything?

A few weeks ago I was in Rwanda and had the privilege of addressing women in Parliament. We were asked how we got started in our career and I told them this story. When I was about seven, my father took me to visit a friend of his at his home. I was amazed when I walked in the front door, because there in the living room was the friend’s wife – she was surrounded with bricks, and she said to me, “I’m building a fireplace!”

Well, that day changed my life forever. I had never seen a woman building anything before. In my seven year old mind, those creations were reserved for men. At that moment I said to myself, “If a woman can build a fireplace, a woman can do anything!”

What messages are you giving YOURSELF, as well as the girls and women in your life? I heard a secretary on an elevator say, “Oh, I wouldn’t have my boss’s job for anything – there’s too much worry and responsibility.” And yet I noticed that she worried and fretted as much as he did, and made half the salary. Are the things you say, and the things you do, compatible with what you want to see in the world?

How seriously do you take yourself? Do you live into your vision? Does your wardrobe reflect the position you aim for? Are your friends moving in the same direction as you seek to move? If you are married, do you allow yourself as much downtime to rejuvenate as you expect for your spouse? Those are just some of the questions you can ask to assess how well you walk your talk in terms of gender equality.

30 Second Focus Tip: Remember that how you project yourself, will affect your progress toward your goals. It will also affect the future generation and the people around you now. Take 30 seconds now and decide what you will do. What can you change, in words or deeds, to bring yourself more in line with your REAL POTENTIAL, remembering that YOU AS A WOMAN CAN DO ANYTHING!

PS…Who do you know with great potential? A colleague, a friend, a daughter or family member? Why not tell them about our membership and these support tools for advancement? They can try out the : www.WomenforWealth.com/wbsc.htm membership today. Tell them that they can get tremendous value through emails and through phone conferences, - all without leaving their home or desk - AND if they aren't absolutely thrilled with the value, we (the Founders - Christine Harvey and Liz Uible) will stop their membership and give them a full refund. We’ll even give them a $50 credit off any of our tele-seminar training packages priced at $100 or more, if they are not fully satisfied.. How’s that for a guarantee? Why not invite them to join us and discover what’s possible for their lives? Remember, success is achieved through the people we surround ourselves with. Let’s work together on the mind set and principles of wealth building!

Issue 2 - Swiss Francs, Anyone? (Or, how is the US dollar doing?)

from Christine Harvey

Judging from the emails in response to yesterday’s issue about the US dollar decline, many of you share our concern – others are starting to keep a keen watch about what’s going on around us.

Just to finish the scenario about my Swiss Franc bond purchase, I did execute the order today through my most favored broker – but the delay cost me some interest points. Had I bought it 3 days ago when I started my enquiries, I would have had 1.18% yield/ interest. Today the yield fell to .8%. That whopping interest rate probably brings tears to your eyes!

Obviously others are starting to flee in that direction assuming that bonds are safer than stocks, driving bond prices up and interest rates down. But as I said yesterday, who really cares about the interest rate when we compare it to returns on real estate and businesses. It’s the capitol preservation I care about.

Several of you wrote today to say how you noticed how little you can buy in London or Frankfurt with your dollars. I remember the first trip to Paris that Tom and I had, when we were able to buy 10 French Francs with one of our US dollars. When the Franc converted to the Euro a few years ago, you could buy only 4.5 Francs with each dollar. For a long time, the US has been blessed with low prices on homes, goods and services. A fax machine that costs $100 here would cost $250 –$300 in/Europe. I know, because I lived there for 23 years. I see us heading in that direction, here in the US.

The sinking of the value of the dollar will be very expensive for Americans. The lifestyle will change dramatically, EVEN IF you don’t want to travel outside this country. I’m NOT saying this for gloom and doom, I only want you to watch what’s really going on. How much money is the Fed printing? That’s the M1. (How will that affect inflation and housing prices and real estate investment, and business? We’re working in un-chartered waters here.) In fact they stopped publishing the M3 last year. HUM, wonder why? Lots to investigate and learn about once you start delving into this. Then the planning starts on how to preserve your hard earned capitol, and how to plan for appreciation.

Speaking of un-chartered waters, our Hard Money Loan Broker said to us today, “anyone under 38 years old has a hard time fathoming the downturn in the market.” That’s natural, because we all process things through our perspective, and our perspective is generally made up of our experiences. So now is the time to open up our eyes to what has been and what could be and stop assuming it will be as it has always been!

On that note, I’ll turn you over to our bond expert, Tom Harvey. Pay particular attention to the amount of money that the governments are injecting right now, and ask yourself “Why is that?”….

Market Summary, by US Bond Guru, Tom Harvey…

After yesterday’s amazing stock market and money market action, today was important in the way the Central Bankers continued to pour money in. The European Central Bank (ECB) after injecting $130B yesterday, added another $84B today.

The US FED after adding $24B yesterday, added another $38B today. And Fed Chairman Bernanke said that he would pump as much money as it takes to solve the illiquidity problem.

Now that’s what I call more inflation.

The more important fact was that yesterday, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, the ECB and FED and Japanese Central Bank worked TOGETHER to add liquidity. This has never happened before. Adding funds has been done on a single national basis, but not a global basis. Several other Central Banks joined in yesterday with this Big 3 Triumvirate too. This was a truly global action.

By the way, do you remember that one French bank started all this yesterday? That bank closed 3 funds totaling $3.8B, but the ECB added $130B liquidity. Kind of an overkill?? Well, no. It turns out that there are lots of European banks holding sub-prime mortgage portfolios, and their exposure is MUCH greater than that one French bank. Other European banks have also stopped trading on the sub-prime mortgage funds.

US banks started calling loans in from companies and hedge funds dealing in sub-prime mortgages a few days ago. Banks don’t want to be left holding the bag when this market implodes. These bank demands are what is causing the illiquidity in the market.

Oh, and by the way again, the SEC is auditing the big US banks and financial companies to see (1) how much sub-prime mortgage market exposure each one has, and (2) how each one values its portfolio. Logic 101 says that this means that the SEC DOESN’T KNOW what is going on in this huge sub-prime mortgage market. Hope that makes you feel uncomfortable – because it sure makes me feel uncomfortable.

Swiss Francs, Anyone? (Or, how is the US dollar doing?)

from Christine Harvey

HOW IS THE US DOLLAR DOING – AND WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

I spent the better part of two mornings this week working at turning an IRA into a Swiss Franc account. And why would I do that anyway, you might ask? The interest rate on a Swiss Acct is horrendously low, like 1.18% after fees. The Euro has 3 or 4 time better interest – you can get a whopping 4.2% interest.

But let’s stop the focus on this interest nonsense. Who cares about 2 or 3 % interest difference when we can make huge returns on real estate investments, and businesses.

Why am I looking at Swiss Francs anyway? The answer is simple.

I’m REALLY concerned about the US dollar. The Chinese are threatening to undermine it, the French stopped trading in 3 funds today because of their concern over the US mortgage market, and on and on. Just look around you. We have a war to pay for, and the way the government usually does that is to print money. With more money in circulation, your dollars are worth less and less.

When I called the brokers this week to move into Swiss Francs, they all tried to talk me into other currencies – ‘you’ll get higher interest’ they said. But my objective was not interest, it was the preservation of my capital.

And why Swiss and why not Euros, you might ask? Well actually Euros are my close second choice. It’s a gamble. But I look at it this way. The old money believes in Switzerland and Swiss Banks, and the Swiss Franc. If things get really rocky internationally, the old money will go back to the safest haven they can find – the Swiss connection. And I heard recently that the Swiss Franc is still backed by metals. If that’s true, that’s vital when the chips are down.

The Euro on the other hand has the advantage of being in line for the currency of choice, if the dollar is undermined - which could be the most traumatic economic shift of our lifetime. The Euro has big pull due to the European Union and the huge number of countries it represents. I don’t personally have faith in their stability in the long, long haul because of the interdependence they face. If one country falters, the others have to prop it up, and eventually the whole deck of cards could fall. But for the short haul they are doing pretty well. (In fact when I changed money in Rwanda 2 weeks ago, it had to go to Euros first then Rwandan Francs, and the exchange rate between the dollar and the Euro was 1.38. That’s a pretty amazing rise, when you consider it was 1 to one when the Euro was launched a few years ago.)

Well, that’s all from me for the moment, now I’m going to turn you over to our personal US Bond Advisor, Tom Harvey. I don’t know anyone who knows the bond market better than Tom, and by studying the bond market, you have a window into every aspect of the economy. So I’ve asked him to do a summary of activity, and here it is…

Market Summary, by US Bond Guru, Tom Harvey from EconomyGuy.com

Today was one of those days that should be remembered in the future. The DOW went down 387 points due to lack of confidence in the sub-prime mortgage market.

The trigger was the French Bank BNP Paribas stopping trading in 3 funds that invested in US sub-prime mortgage because the market value of the funds could not be determined. The European Community Bank added $130B to bank overnight trading to calm the market, but this had just the opposite effect. (You can tell that these central bankers are working in uncharted waters.) The US Fed added a greater than normal $24B in overnight funds.

Now that’s what I call inflation.

The US Bond market jumped up, and became a haven of security in these turbulent times. (Don’t worry, investors will forget about today around 8AM tomorrow.) The 10 year bond interest rate fell .07%, but this was only half of what it lost the last few days.

The currency market was interesting. The US Dollar strengthened slightly as people thought the US was a haven for security. (This attitude will change sometime in the future when foreigners realize that the US Dollar is not a haven for security, but just the opposite.)

Here’s the closing details:
DJ30 – 13,270 (down 2.83%)
10 year US Treasury Bond – 4.79%
US Dollar - $1.3661/Euro. About 2 cents off the record high.

Convenience Integrity Can Bite You

Have you ever reflected on how ‘convenience integrity’ comes back to bite you?

I woke up this morning with a nagging feeling. I realized that twice this year I’ve hired subcontractors in my different businesses that I knew were not up to the job. In fact whenever I’ve ‘settled’ on a person who seemed to be under qualified, it was because my mind told me that there was no one out there who was perfectly suited for the job. AND this ‘convenience integrity’ doesn’t stop here – it happens in personal life too.

What I realize in reflection, is that the perfect person, meeting all the integrity requirements, was there all the time, and it was only my attitude of scarcity that blocked me from connecting with them.

That’s what I mean by CONVENIENCE INTEGRITY. That’s when you make a decision to do something despite your better judgment. You talk yourself into something by saying “Oh well, it’s probably not going to be a problem.” Maybe someone asks you to do something – like take on a volunteer position - and you agree, knowing in your heart that it’s not a perfect fit for you. Or maybe you have an invitation to do something with a group and there are signs that the group and you have different moral values - but you do it anyway because there seems to be an opportunity in it for you, and you ignore the future downside of those different moral values, and later it comes back to bite you.

I remember a friend of mine who was having horrible problems with an associate. The associate had a volatile personality in the office, but was fun loving at parties. Because she had met him at a party and saw his fun loving side first, she choose to ignore the signs of his volatility, and engaged his services anyway. Ignoring that cost her thousands of dollars and sleepless nights. It also cost her friends grief as she continued to ignore the downside of working with him, spilling her complaints onto her friends, and entangling them in her scenarios with him.

Or maybe, as I’ve done, you hire someone who gives signs of not working out, but your mind tells you that need them desperately. So you talk yourself into the shortcut of hiring them, rather than to look further for the right person. That’s ‘convenience integrity.’ It’s against your personal integrity. That nagging feeling is there but you choose to ignore it. You do it because it’s convenient for you at that moment. You do it saying, “Oh I’m sure there won’t be any problems,” while deep within you, you know differently.

An interesting point was made to me many years ago, and it was this: “When things start out badly with someone, they rarely get better.” Keeping that in mind has helped me numerous times. Everyone has different values and standards of integrity. By listening to our own better judgment and connecting with people of the highest standards of integrity, we can impact the world in the most positive way.

Here’s an example of integrity with ones self and courage you might want to consider. A friend of mine decided some years ago that most of her friends were of a negative mindset. She decided she needed to be surrounded by positive friends, and immediately acquired a new set of friends with a positive mindset. She didn’t block herself with a scarcity mindset by saying things like, “All people have some negativity, so I’d better stick with the friend I have.” No, she opened her mind to the possibility that people existed of her mindset, and immediately they appeared.

THREE-SECOND FOCUS TIP: Think now of any niggling situations with people in your life – things that perhaps make you toss and turn at night. You can’t quite get a handle on it, but it’s there gnawing away at you. Now think of that person in question. Were there signs you ignored about integrity differences? Or signs of incompetence? Or moral value differences?

By settling on these relationships, we compromise our own personal integrity, and we block possibilities for the world. Decide now – as my friend did above in acquiring a whole new set of friends, what you can do to change your situation, then promise yourself to listen to your own personal integrity next time. When you do, you’ll be operating at you highest level. Then you and the world will benefit from collective integrity.

Handling Disfunction Can Propel You into the Billionaire Zone

from Christine Harvey

Most of us don't need help when things are going well.

But what do we do when things are going badly? Do we stew over it or do we have a plan in place, a method for handling each type of difficult situation?

Let's look at Billionaires for a moment. Do you think they could have built their empires without being able to confront an employee about a bad behavior? Or confront a supplier about an integrity issue? Or confront a business partner about a niggling disagreement? Of course not.

Here's an example. Recently Warren Buffet gave Bill and Melinda Gates billions of dollars to administer through their foundation at Microsoft. Wouldn't you like knowing that people have enough trust in you to give you billions to invest or control? Billionaires get where they are today by developing skills for handling ALL situations, not just the easy ones.

So if that's where we want to get financially, shouldn't we all be learning about how to handle dysfunction in ourselves and others? Of course we should, but we get so busy with 'everyday pressures' that we don't focus on getting answers to the development of these two critical strengths.

First we need to identify the areas we want to develop. The easiest way to do this is to look at what makes you stressed. Do you stress out over wanting to tell someone that things didn't go well, and you want to see it go differently next time? If so, presto - you've identified an area needing a methodology that works, so you can propel yourself to the Billionaire Zone.

Focus Tip for Today: Pay attention to what seems difficult or niggling in your life today. See what you stew over. If all goes well today, then watch for one tomorrow. By the end of the week, you're sure to find several. Jot them down. Then watch how other people handle those same situations. Some will handle them well. Others will not. It's the good role models that you want to follow. When you see someone handle it well, jot that down too. Then you'll have your own blueprint and methodologies started for moving into the Billionaire Zone.

THE SURVIVAL OF MARRIAGE

from Christine Harvey

Have you ever wondered why some marriages last and others don’t?

I do, and so I surveyed people married over 27 years with this question:
“What would your advice be to a young couple just getting started in marriage, for how to have a long and happy life together?”

The answers were so good that I wanted to share them with you:

  1. Grace – “To receive give and receive forgiveness.”
  1. Reciprocal understanding – “When your partner expresses a need or desire, always turn it around in you mind and think of it as your own need. Have tolerance for that need, whether it is a ball game you don’t really want to attend, or a perceived hurt of some kind.”
  1. Love – “I always try to remember my love for my partner, even during an argument. It helps to take my mind and feelings back to when we first met.”

What jumps out for you as you read these? What could you apply in your life today? Aren’t these also great answers to dealing with any one in life? In fact, is it not possible that the original question I asked:

“What would your advice be to a young couple just getting started in marriage, for how to have a long and happy life together?”

…could just as easily been:

“What would your advice be to anyone who wants to have a happy life, with regard to their relationship with people?”

Hum, something to ponder.

Focus Tip for Today: Determine that you will have a better life today. Decide which mindset will you implement immediately- grace, reciprocal understanding and/or love?

HELPING YOUR PARTNER GROW

from Christine Harvey

Have you ever heard of peer tutoring?

It’s a system of two people working work together to catapult results in a matter of days. What if we could do that with our business partner, or life partner? Or maybe you find a mastermind partner. No matter what area of application – these results are possible for both of you through peer support. IT’S EASY. It also builds your relationship!

HOW IT WORKS:
Let’s say you want to improve in courage and your partner wants to improve in computer skills. While these are two diverse skill areas, you can work together to make it happen.

The benefit to you is three fold in this process.
First,
you’ll grow in your chosen area from this goal setting and support.
Second
, you’ll grow in your leadership by learning to give positive reinforcement easily.
Third,
your relationship with your partner will catapult.

Here’s how it works, and it only takes a few minutes a day.

Part 1
At the start of the day, you each set a goal and communicate it to each other. The partner who wants courage might choose to stop procrastinating and make a difficult phone call. The person wanting to develop computer skills may want to hire an instructor and sets today’s goal as putting an ad in Craig’s List.

Part 2
At the end of the day, you do a report back. You each tell each other of your success, and then give positive reinforcement to your partner.

The important part is the partner who listens and gives positive reinforcement. Let’s say that your partner called the difficult person. When it’s your turn to give positive reinforcement, try to see a strength in them that you can point out. They stated that they want to develop courage, so you say that you see courage clearly in them because it took courage to make the call. As the partner of the person wanting to develop computer skills, you can say you see commitment to their self improvement, or whatever you do see.

FOCUS TIP ACTION STEPS: Decide now to choose a partner, and explain this system and/or let them read this. Choose a goal to work on – for each of you. Then pick a time to report in each morning and each afternoon. TIP: Keep it to a short specified time – perhaps 2 minutes each. This time MUST include time to give your partner positive reinforcement. Commit to doing it for 3 or 4 days, then re-evaluate your methods and results. Then decide on a new goal, or continue with a new one. You’ll be amazed at your results!

Making Magic Moments

from Christine Harvey

Have you ever sat back after a busy day, exhausted from hard work and wondered about the meaning of it all?

And yet, have you noticed how a magical moment can come out of the blue, unplanned, staring you in the face when you least expect it?

What causes those moments?

At a seminar I attended this weekend we were given the assignment to create something out of nothing. In fact, we were told to create a quite space, with a total stranger, where something could happen.

My husband and I decided we would do this exercise with the breakfast staff at the hotel. So we dutifully started a conversation, gave the waitress 100% of our attention, and then when a pause came in the conversation, we kept our eyes focused on her and said nothing.

Sure enough, in that space magic was created. She confided in us that she missed her family terribly. They were in Ethiopia and she was here with her baby son and husband. Her chances of going back to see her parents were slim. Their chances of coming here were slim. It could be years, if ever, she would see her parents again.

I reflected on that conversation – the fact that I’ve always been able to hop on a plane to visit my family. The fact that every blessing I could think of is available to us. That pause in the conversation changed my day, brought me unbelievable gratitude, and strengthened my resolve for the work we are doing in Africa. Those magical moments are available every moment of the day, if we leave space to let them unfold.

Later that morning my husband and I were leaving the hotel, walking hurriedly to the car, although in fact we would have had plenty of time to stroll. I said something to him, which he misheard in our rush. I straightened out the miscommunication and then reflected on the fact that we are often ‘rushing to nowhere.’ And when we are rushing to nowhere, we don’t let the magic moments in.

Focus Tip: Take a moment today to commit to pauses in your conversations. In your next conversation with someone, be it in person or on the phone, just pause at the end of a sentence and see what happens. And give it a long, determined pause. Perhaps that person will share something with you that will change your day, bring you gratitude and strengthen your resolve!

June 1st as a Turning Point

from WomenforWealth.com Founders, Christine Harvey and Liz Uible

Happy June first! What does a new month mean to us?

What will you do with this month to make it different from the rest? What will you do to look back and say, June 1st changed my life?

Well here’s a suggestion. Dr Wayne Dyer says that most people think that their happiness is NOT in their control. They think that circumstances create their state of happiness.

I know that for most of you that is not true. I know that you know that you can control your state, and that happiness is in your control. BUT, here’s the critical question: HOW MUCH do you actively work on your mental state minute by minute? How often do you stop to ask yourself what state you’re in – ESPECIALLY WHEN THE GOING IS TOUGH!

Knowing is one thing, doing is another.
On our member call last Wednesday, as a prelude to looking at our unique abilities, we discussed the Focus Tip on Emotional States, which we’ve copied for you below.

One member talked about a family situation, and the negative dip she found herself in. She decided to examine her state and see which rung of the ladder she was on. No surprise there! She discovered she was in a depressed state of feeling victimized. Immediately upon realizing that, she pictured the rungs of the ladder in her mind, and decided she could easily change her state to irritated. From there she was able to put the scenario into perspective and move to a positive state. Voila – her life was immediately transformed. Her slump was gone, unlike the times we have when we drag these things into hours or days. Or in some families it can be weeks and years! In some countries, it can be generations.

When is enough, enough? What can you do as leaders to change this? What can you do, not only for yourselves, but for the others around you? First and foremost you can lead by example? Soon people will be asking you, “Barbara, what’s different about you?” You’ll be attracting different people into your life. While you are in your new state of calm, new ideas will come to you and your whole prosperity consciousness will change. Why not do that for ourselves and for others as leaders, this first day of June, 2007.

Dr Dyer points out that most people let themselves get dragged by events from one victimized state to another. First it’s the traffic, then it’s the colleague, then it’s the boss, or the project or the customer. “The only road to joy,” he says, “is taking control and responsibility over your own state of mind.”

Tony Robbins points out that we can change our state anytime we want. In fact, by asking yourself what state you are in, your mind shifts from the emotional side to the logical side, and you’ve broken the grip on the negative state.

ONE MINUTE FOCUS TIP: So let’s make June 1st the turning point of our lives – truly, once and for all. Let’s decide today, as Dyer suggests, to NEVER LET OURSELVES BE DRAGGED DOWN BY CIRCUMSTANCES. Let’s use the rung of the ladder technique as follows:

First - identify your state, tell yourself what rung of the ladder you are on.

Second – picture the ladder in your mind, and see which rung you can jump up to. Can you go from depression to anger? That’s pretty easy. Anger gives relief from depression. Once you’ve jumped a few rungs, you can jump more.

Please write and tell us your experiences so that we can share them with others.

All the best,

Christine and Liz

PS For your review, here’s the list of the rungs of the emotional ladder in italics below, in order from high to low:

Joy/Love/Freedom/Appreciation
Positive Expectation
Optimism
Hopefulness
_______
Pessimism
Irritation
Feeling Overwhelmed
Blame
Anger
Revenge
Rage
Depression/Fear/Despair/Powerlessness/Grief

Throw modest away!

from Christine Harvey

Modesty can be fatal. It’s keeping you from finding your primary purpose. And it’s your primary purpose that drives you. It keeps you going day to day. It brings you joy. It lets you identify and use your unique abilities.

When you let modest get in the way, you can’t even identify your unique abilities, let alone use them! When we work with groups around the world, especially groups of women, we share with them an easy way to drop the modesty that blinds them. It’s this simple. Just start thinking of your abilities as God given. Why do you have those abilities? Perhaps they were purposely given to you to use them, to nurture and grow them, to help the world with them.

We each have unique abilities, different from one another. Isn’t there a chance the world was designed that way? So if you are hiding your talents under a bushel, how does that serve the world – or you?

So as you read this now, ask yourself where you are being too modest. Then set about dropping it. Open your door of opportunity, right now, to see your talents clearly. Then your primary purpose will reveal itself. Do it now. The world needs you, and it needs you to be all you can be.

How to Identify Your Unique Talents

from Christine Harvey

First, WHY would you want to identify your unique talents?

For me the answer is that when you know your unique talents, you can use them more effectively. For example, what if you discover that you are a good verbal communicator? Then you discover that most people have a fear of speaking out in groups. Then, the next time you are in a room full of people, but only a few are speaking on one side of the issue, you’ll be more likely to bring the other side of the issue forward. Why – because you know that your unique skill is verbal communication. Your skill could make or break an issue. Your skill could be completely different, but by knowing what it is, you’ll have the courage and conviction to use is more often. This leads you to your dreams and your purpose in life.

Second, HOW do you discover your unique talents?

The answer is easy. Just go back to something really special in your life. Maybe an accomplishment. Now ask yourself, “What was the skill or talent I used?” I’ll give you an example from my own life. As you read ahead, think of an accomplishment that gave you great satisfaction, and apply the same principles to get to your unique talent.

Here’s my example. In 1990, when the Communist Wall went down, I went to Czechoslovakia and started a Management Training Institute. I knew no one there when I went. Over a 4 year period, I started the company, hired the people and the translators, worked out the double tax agreements, set up a structure to train 210 trainers, had an advisory board, appointed a joint venture Czech partner to run the Institute, and trained 40,000 people in management, sales, marketing, public speaking and motivation.

Now to get to my unique talent, I have to tap into the real buzz for me, not the grueling parts that I didn’t like. For example, I didn’t like having to keep tabs on quality control. Whenever I told them to print a flyer in black and white, it seemed to come out in pink and green. That was frustrating. So what did I like? What gave me the real thrill? Well, I remember once taking all our trainers to Monte Carlo as a bonus for superior performance. I remember preparing my speeches to acknowledge them and motivate them. That gave me a huge buzz. So from that I can conclude that a unique talent for me is the ability to motivate groups, particularly my groups.

What else did I love about that aspect of my life? Well, I remember often going on a planning retreat with my Institute joint venture partner Eva, and having green light planning sessions. We would talk for hours on ideas and plans, write them down, and then set an implementation schedule. One time we met for the weekend in a gorgeous forest setting, and I remember settling into a corner in the lounge over a glass of wine as our ideas flowed. Another time in a European café overlooking a precious setting. So what does that tell me about a unique talent? It tells me that I have a unique talent for results through collaboration. And, that my mind is best stimulated in beautiful environments.

Ok, now what comes to your mind? Think back to your most exciting times in life. What happened? Maybe it was an accomplishment, maybe an award, maybe a fantastic trip with friends, maybe something back in your school days, maybe a job or a promotion. Maybe an acknowledgment. Don’t get blocked by feeling you have to have the RIGHT thing. Anything you choose will help you tap into your unique talents. Get that accomplishment or event in mind, then tap into the feeling of satisfaction. What was it? What unique talent does that lead you to? Jot it down, and glance at it throughout the day. Take the next 48 hours to use it as often as you can – perhaps in each new setting or meeting you encounter. See how that feels and how it impacts your life and the lives of others.

One thing I’ll guarantee, is that as you start to use your unique abilities consciously, the world around you will shift. You’ll see miracles happen for yourself and others!

We’ll be doing more of this on our May 30th member call at 3 Pacific/ 6 Eastern, so if you know someone who should join, invite them to go to www.WomenforWealth.com

The Power of Emotional States

from Christine Harvey

Do you want to have a life changing experience?

If so, read the piece below, and then join us on the member call on Wednesday – see details at end of email in bold. If you can’t join us, here are the application areas – practice these today and during this week. See what changes it makes. Then incorporate the technique on a daily basis.

Here we go…

EMOTIONAL STATES –

1. How does your emotional state affect your income?

2. How does your emotional state affect your relationships?

3. How does your emotional state affect your health and joy?

Emotions can be wonderful, emotions can be debilitating!

Do you know the hierarchy of emotional states? OR… how to move your self up from one to the other?

Would it help you to have this information? For me, it’s been a life changing experience. For years, I’ve wondered how I could feel bliss one minute and the opposite the next. I wondered if I was unique or if everyone experienced it. More importantly, I knew that I could only create while in a positive state. Time after time, I saw that while in a negative state, nothing useful happened, and that I was blocked from creativity and joy.

Recently in the book ‘Ask and It Is Given,’ by Esther and Jerry Hicks, I discovered a ladder of human emotions. I want to share it with you because it can make a powerful difference in creating your life as you want it – joy, wealth, happiness.

As you read them, think about how you might make a conscious effort to identify which rung of the ladder you are on now, and how you might continue to identify your state throughout the day.

Here is the list in order from high to low:

Joy/Love/Freedom/Appreciation
Positive Expectation
Optimism
Hopefulness
________
Pessimism
Irritation
Feeling Overwhelmed
Blame
Anger
Revenge
Rage
Depression/Fear/Despair/Powerlessness/Grief

So, if emotions can be wonderful or debilitating, how do you move from one to another? According to Hicks, here’s the secret. Just pull yourself up the ladder a few rungs at a time. While it might be hard to jump from depression to joy in one fell swoop, it’s relatively easy to go from one to the next. Imagine being depressed. It’s not too hard to go from depression to anger. And it’s certainly not hard to go from anger to blame – not that we should stay there long!!! But the point is, that if we know the human emotional rungs, we can force ourselves up the ladder one step or two at a time. And each step might only take seconds to ascend. As Hicks puts it, “Rage gives you relief from depression… and hopefulness gives you relief from pessimism… and joy gives relief from positive expectation”

APPLICATION AREAS:

Prosperity & Income – Hicks also says that the habit of resistant thought is the only thing that keeps up from allowing what we desire. Therefore if we move ourselves up and out of resistant thought (anything on the ladder below hopefulness,) we will allow that which we desire to enter our lives.

Relationships – What do you really want in relationships? When I learned this process, all the tension went out of relationships. All I had to do was identify the state I was in at that moment, AND the state of the person I was with. If either were negative, I knew we were not in a position to discuss anything. By teaching this to the people who matter to me, we were each able to identify our states, move up the ladder to a positive state and then move on with joy. It’s magic, believe me. The trick here – and it’s easy – is to discipline yourself to identify your state. You may feel some inner resistance, because while in the negative states like anger or blame can be griping. But knowing your purpose will pull you through.

Health and joy – The negative states carry a negative vibration which affects your health and welfare. Your mind can’t work to solve problems or think logically. You’re not at your full capacity. Positive states carry positive vibrations, leading to creativity and joy. Every move up the ladder of emotions will bring you closer and closer to the top rung of joy. Choose to be there, identify where you are on the ladder moment by moment, and soon you will develop the expertise to work your way to the top. The more you practice, the faster you’ll progress. Why not start now!

The Power of Celebration and Recognition

from Christine Harvey

What can we learn from female CEO’s? Since 1991, Julia Stewart has worked her way up to Chairman and CEO of the restaurant chain of IHOP. She remembers back to working for a previous company where she made it a habit to RECOGNIZE management trainees when they completed their training with a celebration and a small gift. On one occasion, an employee’s mother broke down in tears over this reward for her son. To her it was HOPE that her son would break out of their tough neighborhood, and move on to a better life.

When I read this, I thought of all the lectures I’ve given around the world, and the comments people have made to me after my speeches. It lead me to this question for us today – Isn’t that what we all want - to move on to a better life? Isn’t this true, regardless of our economic status? It’s the nature of humanity to HOPE for improvement in our lives.

But the question for us is, WHAT CAN WE DO TO CREATE THIS for ourselves and others today? How about taking a leaf from Julia Stewart? What if we paid more attention to recognizing each other for small achievements and for celebrating achievements of ourselves and others? How do we know that we wouldn’t touch, move, and inspire others, as Julia did with her employee’s mother? How do we know we wouldn’t bring hope for a changed life to our own family member? Or to our own employee or spouse or ourselves?

3 SECOND FOCUS TIP – Today, as you go about your day, take a few seconds to think about a recent accomplishment of your own. How can you celebrate that accomplishment? Why not celebration today? Later as you go about your day, THINK OF ANY PERSON in your life. What accomplishment, small or large, have they had recently? How can you acknowledge them for that? A few words are all you need. As you learn to do this, your leadership will grow. Your self-esteem will increase. Your own life will soar. Think of what Julia Stewart did. Her acknowledgement brought HOPE for them to break out of their current situation and MOVE ON TO A BETTER LIFE. Your words and thoughts can do the same for you and for others today! Don’t delay. Try it and see what results you get through these actions.

How to be Irresistible

from Christine Harvey

Often we talk about how important it is to develop an awareness of how we project ourselves and what ‘vibrational’ energy we are putting out. Why? The answer is simply – it’s because we attract the SAME back. So if we’re oozing out optimism for our life and our future, we will attract positive people to help us along that journey. If, on the other hand, we allow ourselves to be in a slump – a state of ‘oh how awful IT is’ - whatever that IT might be at that moment – we’ll attract like minded negativity to us. And, the downward spiral will continue.

Now let’s notch it up – let’s look at the Billionaire Mindset, and search out the ESSENTIAL ground floor platform of thinking. What ONE thing can we do today and everyday that will set the stage for ‘positivity’ to flow into our minds. This ‘positivity’ could be in the form of prosperity or goodness or tranquility, peace of mind, gratitude, relationships, health – WHATEVER YOU WANT AND NEED TODAY. What one thing can we do to open us to receiving the messages we need to receive TODAY?

Here’s an answer from Albert Einstein. He tried to get a Ph.D. but his professors didn’t think he was good enough! The empowering mindset Einstein kept was that “I was born to create something great.” What if you let yourself step out of the way for a moment? What IF you stop taking ‘credit’ for your own being on this earth for a moment, and just trust that you are here for a reason? Isn’t it possible that EACH ONE OF US was born to create something great?

What if every morning you awoke with SUCH EXCITEMENT for the possibilities of what you might be guided to create? Isn’t it possible, that in that open state of mind, you might actually be able to create new thoughts, new visions, new possibilities for yourself and those around you?

Here’s your 3 SECOND FOCUS TIP for Billionaire Mindset Building today. The first time today that something unexpected comes into your day, STOP. Don’t react. Before your mind gets a chance to attach any negative reaction to it, STOP and say, “Hum, I wonder what POSSIBILITY this holds?” Then be still. LISTEN and grasp the FIRST creative answer that comes to you. Jot it down.

You WERE born to create something special, and this mind-set shift will lead you to it, give you a sense of satisfaction and inner peace.

OVERCOMING THE IMPOSSIBLE

From Christine Harvey

A friend told me this story. For four years he wanted a job transfer, AND he wanted his employer to pay his moving expenses.

Everyone he talked to TOLD HIM IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE because of his job category and the rules under which he was hired. Still he held onto hope. Not a day went by that he didn’t think about it. He continued to ask the experts in personnel, and NO ONE GAVE HIM HOPE. On day a new boss came along and changed his job category. Then he studied the rules ONE MORE TIME and found an exception to the rule under which he was hired. Within 12 months he had his transfer, to a job in which he could really excel, AND his employer was required to pay his moving expenses.

What if he had listened to the people around him? What if he had listened to the ‘experts?’ If he had taken their opinions at face value, he would not have been open to the new job, nor would he have studied the rules one more time. He’d still be in that old job he hated.

Many years ago my husband and I had a dream of going to Europe to live and work. The first friends we told our dream to, laughed in our face. I’m not kidding. They were nice people, they were upwardly mobile, and we felt safe telling them our seemingly wild dream. I remember feeling stunned and taken aback. But we held onto our dream. We tried for 12 years to find a way to move there and finally our opportunity came. We ended up living there for many years, and in the process I started my own export consultancy, which lead to becoming an international management consultancy. In addition, I was elected Chair of a London Chamber of Commerce, the first woman and first American to hold that distinction. I was also able to travel throughout Europe and Asia with my management training company, and I became the author of 6 books sold in 25 languages under 48 different publishers globally.

What if I had dropped my dream the minute the first person laughed in my face about it? Sometimes it’s necessary to change your support group. It’s ALWAYS NECESSARY TO FOLLOW THE DREAM YOU SEE FOR YOURSELF.

Another friend of mine decided at age 30 that her friends were too negative. She explained to them that she loved them, but she needed more positive support in her life. She then sought new friends who were of positive nature. Eventually she became Vice President of an international agency with 13 offices she oversaw around the world. She puts much of her success down to that decision to surround herself with people who could see her potential.

What about you? Are YOU SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO CAN SEE YOUR POTENTIAL?

3 SECOND FOCUS TIP – Today, look around you. Listen to how people speak to you about your potential. Listen to how you support them. If it’s negative, think about the changes you need to make in order to reach YOUR FULL POTENTIAL. The world needs you to be operating in that sphere, so TAKE YOURSELF SERIOUSLY.

Consider this. If you, or people you care about need more support in this area, TAKE POSITIVE ACTION. It’s not too late to join our membership calls and learn ways you can achieve what you know in your heart to be right for you. Just go to www.WomenforWealth.com/wbsc.htm
