A Life Changing Key to Success
from Christine Harvey
I picked up a copy of ‘How to Stop Worrying and Start Living’ from my book case this morning. To my surprise, I found notes in it to myself about the author’s writing style. It took my memories back to the time I was writing my first book, ’In Pursuit of Profit,’ and wanted to copy the style of the most successful author I could find. That particular book by Dale Carnegie, had sold 6,000,000 copies! I remember thinking, “What better model could I have?” My notes showed how often he used italicized font, how often he indented, how many paragraphs he had per page, and how easy they were to read. The techniques worked - my own book succeeded in gaining the second highest monetary advance in the history of the publishing company, and to be a best seller in 8 languages. From then on, I’ve been convinced that ‘mimicking the successful’ is one of the life-changing keys to success.
Have you ever thought about asking people you respect how they do what they do? When I interviewed many of the world’s top sales people for my second book called ‘Secrets of the World’s Top Sales Performers,’ I was amazed to discover that this seldom happens. These top achievers told me that they were never questioned by their company or their colleagues about HOW THEY ACHIEVED THEIR SUCCESS. “What a wasted opportunity!” I remember thinking how powerful it would be for everyone to learn these techniques. And yet, these top achievers were SO willing and raring to talk about these principles that they had worked so hard to master in their lifetimes!
So now we come to you. Who do you know in your life who has a skill or life principle that you admire? Why not talk to them about it? For example, you may admire a colleague’s courage in speaking up. By saying, “Say Mary, I’ve often noticed and admired how you speak out at meetings, and I wonder how you have the courage to do that. What is your mindset that allows you to do that? I’d like to learn from you, if you don’t mind sharing!” I guarantee that Mary will be delighted to share. By asking her, she’ll feel complimented and acknowledged by you.
3 Second Focus Tip – Think now, who do you admire for a certain trait or skill? What is that exactly, and how would you use it in your life? What results could you possible achieve with that skill as part of your tool box for life? These questions will motivate you to talk with the person. Now, thin k of a time and a place you can talk with the person. Will you do it over lunch in a relaxed atmosphere? Are they in another town, and you’ll call and have a chat? Or, maybe a stranger you admire. What approach might you make? Take these 3 seconds to decide who and what, then add it to your agenda for today. Try this and write to me with YOUR results at ChristineHarvey@WomenForWealth.com. I’m counting on you to be everything you can be for the world!

Connecting with Our Inner Spirit
from Christine Harvey
Yesterday someone asked me how she could feel more centered, more connected to her spirit, more confident in her talents. How could she feel less disjointed, and less pulled in all directions?
Here was my answer. Some years ago a colleague of mine in England was running a metaphysical healing program and invited me to attend. I was amazed when he brought a woman up to the front who was migraine sufferer and asked her if she was willing to bring on her migraine as an experiment! “Don’t worry,” he said, “we’ll make it go away too.”
As she proceeded to bring on her migraine, he asked her “What is your inner voice saying to you?” She reflected, then replied that it was telling her, “This is terrible – you have company coming, you can’t afford to be sick now!” That seemed to make sense to all of us in the group. We could all relate to an inner voice like that.
But next my colleague did something that shocked me. He asked her, “Now tell us what your OTHER VOICE is telling you.”
My instant reaction was this: “Your ‘other voice!’ What in the world could THAT be?” I’d never heard that we have a second voice. Just as I was asking myself if it could be true, the woman proceeded to tell us that her other voice was saying, “This is good – you need a rest anyway. You’ve been working too hard recently.” We could immediately see the opposing views of these two voices. It felt like an inner struggle of some sort.
Well, I had no reason to doubt that woman on that day, as she was so genuine. Years later I read in the book called ‘The Course in Miracles,’ about our two inner voices. One they attribute to the ego, whose sole purpose is to keep us off balance in life, and the other they attribute to our pure ‘knowing self.’ They talk about the inner struggle between these two voices and suggest that the sooner we learn to differentiate between the two voices, and listen to the pure knowing self, the sooner we’ll feel inner stability.
3 SECOND FOCUS TIP- Let your mind do a balancing test right now. Where do you feel on a scale of 1-10 in your inner tranquility? If you are feeling completely tranquil, you’re probably listening to your pure inner voice right now. If you are feeling a bit pulled in all directions, you are probably feeling the pull of the two inner voices. Start today, as suggested in ‘The Course in Miracles,’ to differentiate between the two voices. Start to feel connected to the pure voice – the one that comes from the love for humanity. Ignore the one that likes to make you feel doubtful and off balance. Do this every time you feel off balance, unsure, or lacking in confidence about your abilities. Practice this constantly and before long you’ll have developed the muscle of connecting with your spirit, and then you can go to it constantly. Try this and see YOUR results.

Thought of the day: Withdraw Positives from the Memory Bank
With regard to confidence and wealth building alike…

Is There An Entrepreneur in You?
from Christine Harvey
Two questions I’m asked continually are “What kind of business should I start?” and “How do I know I can succeed?”
Whether I answer a reader of my book $14.95 book, In Pursuit of Profit, or a member of our Advanced Women’s Wealth Building Institute who has bought an $800 ‘Take The Leap – Commercial Real Estate Investing Curriculum,’ the answer is always the same.
There are 3 CRITICAL components to consider…
First, what is YOUR PERSONALITY and what kind of business suits that personality. I’ve seen hundreds of entrepreneurs create a business that they ended up hating, simply because they did not consider their own personality thoroughly enough. Then they felt stuck - often worse than they did working for someone else! Ask yourself: Can you stand the hours required? Are you a people person, and is this a people business? Does it require extensive selling (most businesses do,) and do you know how to sell, and more importantly, do your like selling? An excellent tool for determining your personality and work style preferences is the Kolbe Profile. You can do it on-line for a reasonable price and get immediate results. You can even test your prospective employees and see how their profile matches or detracts from yours.
Mr. Morita, founder of the Sony Corporation, said that ‘ideas are a dime a dozen.’ The mistake would-be business owners make is to think that they need a good idea in order to be rich. That’s false. In ‘The Millionaire Next Door,’ research shows that millionaire business owner are people who run a standard business, but do it better or with a unique twist to it. So stop looking for a good idea, and ask yourself what fits your personality in terms of a business, and then set out to do it better or differently.
Second, COUNT THE MONEY in advance. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met in audiences I’ve addressed around the world who neglected this step. What do I mean by ‘Count the Money?’ It’s simple. Add up all the expenses, then add up how many products you think you can sell a day. Get your monthly totals on both and then you’ll find out if there is a profit potential – AND whether there is enough money left for you to have a salary! You would be surprised how many people have a serious hobby instead of a profit. I even had a doctor tell me that he had a $40,000 a year hobby. He explained that instead of retiring, he cut his patient load. But since he couldn’t cut his office, staff or insurance costs, running his practice was costing HIM $40,000. But he loved his patients and his practice, and felt it was worth it. Well, that a conscious decision. I want to make sure that if YOU run into the red, you are doing it on purpose, not because you didn’t do your numbers.
Now, let’s look at what needs to be included in your numbers.
Expenses will include rent, light, heat, insurance, tax, advertising, paper, pens, staff, loss if in retail or the food business, etc. Income includes the price for which you sell each item or service, MINUS the cost of goods that you are producing or reselling.
Let’s say that your rent and expenses are $1000 per month. Let’s also say that you are selling only cups of coffee, to keep it simple. If each cup was sold for $2, and the cost of the paper cup and coffee $1, then you would need to sell how many cups of coffee to break even? The answer is 1000 cups of coffee.
Now that you have that answer, let’s see how many cups you need to sell each day. A 30 day month would yield 300 cups per day. Does that seem reasonable to you for the location? If each person buys one cup, you’ll need 300 people per day entering your shop. And that’s before you add a salary in for yourself. You get the idea.
You can work the numbers any way you want – you can add your salary in from the beginning of your calculations. You can be open 20 days a month instead of thirty. The important thing is to Count the Money BEFORE you sign the lease or quit your day job. You might be reading this and thinking, ‘What kind of a numbskull would start a business without doing these numbers?’ The answer is: the vast majority. It’s easy to get swept up in the emotion and imagine all the fun and independence you’ll have. And don’t get sidetracked by the coffee example. Even if you are selling multi-million dollar aerospace systems, you still have to ‘count the money,’ and compare actual sales to budget if you are to stay in the game.
Third, but equally important, is MULTIPLE INCOME POTENTIAL: Does this business give you the ability to multiply your income from the time and talent you invest? In other words, if you write a book, that’s a one time effort. But every time that book sells, you make money. One effort, multiple chunks of income. That’s leverage.
Compare that to selling hot dogs. One hot dog sold, one chunk of income… Unless you can make a special hot dog process and sell the PROCESS to
many people. That’s basically what McDonald’s does and any chain does. They get an idea and create a process and sell the process.
Why is this important? I’ll tell you why. If you create a business that just ‘make one thing, sell one thing,’ without any chance for multiple chunks of income, you’ll be creating a job for yourself, in which you are the owner. As the owner, many entrepreneurs burn out. They feel even more tied down than working for someone else. Why? Because they can’t quit. They can’t walk out the door and forget it. They have rent to pay, they have customers to serve, employees to pay.
While having your own business is tremendous for personal growth – it challenges all you abilities and thrusts you into being an accountant, a production manager, a sales person, a marketing guru – it’s not necessarily the ‘heaven on earth’ you first dreamt of when you visualized ‘freedom’ along with being a business owner.
So, how do you decide what kind of business to start, and if you will succeed? Ask yourself this: Does my personality fit the business, will it cash flow, and does it offer leverage? If you can answer yes to all three, you have a good chance. If not, don’t give up. Instead look around and choose a business that does answer yes to all three. Years later, you’ll be happy you did!

How to Handle the Negative Behavior of Others
from Christine Harvey
A university age woman wrote to me recently asking this: “How do I stop my best friend from treating me badly? Normally she is wonderful, but when she’s in a ‘slump,’ she takes it out on me.”
Here’s the formula I passed on to her…
1. Sit down with the person and say that you want to set a time to talk about something important to your relationship.
2. When the time comes to chat, which could be immediately, start by reiterating your reason for the discussion, i.e. that the relationship is important to you. This sets the scene and shows that you care.
3. Next, say that because this subject is so important to you, you would like them to repeat your points back to you when you are finished.
4. Now, you’ll cover 3 things - the behavior you want stopped, the replacement behavior, and ask for their agreement to change: “Mary when you yelled at me about the place we when to dinner yesterday, I was very hurt. In the future, I want you to speak to me calmly about anything that disturbs you.
5. Now you ask them to repeat it back to you, and wait while they do it.
6. Next ask, “Are you willing to do that?” (If they are not willing to do that, you compromise on a behavior that is acceptable to you both.)
7. Now you ask them for the reason they behaved badly, and NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY, you respond with ‘nevertheless, I want you to do xyz.’ For example, you ask your friend, “Mary, why DID you shout at me about the place we went to dinner?” Mary responds: “You know, I’m still suffering from my break-up with John and I’m edgy all the time.” Then you say, “Nevertheless, I want you to speak to me calmly about anything that upsets you.”
8. Finally you thank the person for their openness and willingness to work with you to make this important relationship even stronger.
This method was passed on to me some time ago, and works like magic. Why not use it to work magic in your life? With the energy you free up from this, you can devote to your prosperity consciousness and to making the world a better place.
3 SECOND FOCUS TIP – Take 3 seconds to think of any unfinished business in any of your relationships, and determine to give yourself time to resolve it today. When that time comes, draft out the easy steps above, for your unresolved issue. You can do it in your mind or on paper. Now picture yourself sitting with the person, and having the discussion with great positive results. Feel how wonderful you feel to have that issue resolved and off your chest. Feel the pleasure of tapping the courage within you to do that so easily. I promise you, you’ll be proud of your results. Try it and see.

Determining You Own Self Worth
By Christine Harvey
When I was in college, I had a professor of psychology named Dr. Lui. She asked us a question that changed my life. She said, “I want you all to think about this, and give me an answer. What percentage of your own self worth is based on what other people think of you? And what percentage is based on what you think of yourself?”
Then she paused to wait for answers. Of course the responses ranged the whole gambit. It really made me think. Up until then, I had never given the subject any thought. I guess I had assumed that my value was based on what other people thought. After all as we grow up, our parents and teachers are always guiding us in what to do and not do. We learn to lean on their opinions, and even to reflect on our self worth through our perception of their opinion.
I reflected on this question for some time. It came to plague me. After all, WHAT IS SELF WORTH, I asked myself. Surely it has to be OUR opinion of ourselves, otherwise it is not SELF worth. It would then be someone else’s opinion of our worth.
As I’ve gone through life, I’ve been so grateful to Dr.Lui for bringing that distinction to our attention. I’ve seen so many people plagued with low self worth, because they are relying on someone else’s opinion of themselves – their spouse, their colleagues, their friends, even their kids! They haven’t stopped to think that their own SELF worth belongs to them, not to someone else. In fact Terry Cole-Whittaker wrote a book called, ‘What You Think of Me is None of My Business,’ acknowledging the extent of this dilemma.
3 SECOND – Ask yourself the same question now: “WHAT PERCENTAGE OF MY SELF WORTH IS BASED ON OTHER PEOPLE’S OPINION?” If the percentage is high, you are putting your self worth and the stability of your emotional state at risk. Decide now to recapture your own self worth by realizing that you are the ONLY person who can determine that. And if you know someone plagued by this, ask them to consider the same question. Or have a focus tip mastermind session, and share these ideas. YOU CAN SUPPORT EACH OTHER IN RECLAIMING YOUR DESTINY. Try this and see YOUR results.

Thought of the day: How to Change What You Attract
“ … LIKE A MAGNET, YOU ARE ATTRACTING thoughts, people, events, lifestyles.” But, if you want things to be different, they suggest this … “As you see things AS YOU WOULD LIKE THEM TO BE, you attract them AS YOU WOULD LIKE THEM TO BE.”

Change Your Self Talk for the Better
from Christine Harvey
Yesterday, I had the good fortune of reconnecting with a friend of mine, David Brooks, while in Austin, Texas. David had the distinction of being the 1990 World Champion Toastmaster. Since then, David has coached five subsequent World Champions in Toastmasters, a very highly acclaimed title achieved through numerous levels of speaking competitions with thousands of Toastmasters from countries around the entire globe.
In his book ‘The Seven Strategies of Master Presenters,’ written with Dr. Brad McRae, one segment jumped out at me immediately. It’s perfect for those of us interested in raising our self esteem, or raising the self esteem of someone important in our lives or our business. Brooks and McRae say, “Most adults don’t fully realize what they say to themselves or how it influences their behavior.” And their results, of course!
I’VE SEEN SO MANY TALENTED PEOPLE WASTE THEIR POTENTIAL DUE TO NEGATIVE SELF TALK. Don’t let this happen to you! Instead, do as these authors recommend – learn to convert three types of negative self talk to three types of positive self talk, as follows.
Change talk which is irrelevant to talk which is task relevant. Instead of “I hate this career,” say, “I have one hour to work. What do I want to accomplish?”
Change talk which is self-depreciating to talk which is self-appreciating. Instead of “I never could do this,” say, “I worked well this morning.”
Change talk which is task-depreciating to talk which is task-appreciating. Instead of “There are no opportunities here, why knock myself out doing a good job?” say, “Being able to do a good job gives me more opportunities in the future.”
3 SECOND FOCUS TIP – Commit to watching yourself talk today. WHEN YOU CATCH YOURSELF SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE TO YOURSELF, STOP! Make it a game. Say ‘cancel, cancel.’ Then replace it with a positive example, as above. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes in your day. Do this everyday, and you’ll be amazed at what it does to heighten your health, wealth, and happiness. No kidding. Some things in life are that easy, AND BRING HUGE RESULTS. If it seems too simple, think twice. Try this and see YOUR results.

Affirming Wealth Personally for You
by Christine Harvey
Phil Laut, the author of ‘Money Is My Friend,’ says that WRITING IS THE FASTEST WAY TO INCORPORATE IDEAS INTO YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS. He suggests writing affirmations about money in order to see what negativity you hold around a particular thought. Start out writing in the first person, such as “I deserve to be prosperous and wealthy.” Write it several times and jot down what your mind thinks. You might see negative thoughts such as, “NOT ME, or Oh yeah!, or Why am I doing this? Or I feel tired.”
Now that you know the negative thoughts your mind is producing, it’s time to get down to changing them to positive thoughts. Laut even goes on to say that this method of writing down all your negative thoughts will help you turn around anything in life, including depression. By writing down these negative thoughts, you bring them into the daylight for you to see. Laut points out that you’re likely to say, “No wonder I’m depressed, anyone with thoughts like that would be depressed.”
Now apply this to wealth. Once we see our negative thoughts around wealth, we might say to ourselves, “No wonder I’m not achieving the wealth I desire, anyone with thoughts like these would not be wealthy.” (In fact, you can substitute any facet of your life here; be it peace and tranquility, relationship, harmony, friends, and on and on.)
“The next step,” says Laut, “is to take the negative thoughts you were just thinking as indicated on your paper, and invert them into affirmations and then write the affirmations.”
3 SECOND FOCUS TIP - AFFIRMING WEALTH Think of your day ahead, and pick a time – let’s say a 5 minute window, that you can grab for yourself. Maybe over lunch, or while you are traveling, or just before bed tonight. Now, commit to dedicating that time to yourself, and to taking a pen and paper to that spot with you.
When there, jot down this statement: “I deserve to be prosperous and wealthy,” as Laut suggests. Next to it write down the negative thought that pops into your head. NOW YOU HAVE THE PRESCRIPTION FOR YOUR OWN PERSONALIZED AFFIRMATION! To create your affirmation, just remove the negative word, and insert the positive one. For example, change ‘Not me,’ to ‘Yes, me, I deserve to be prosperous.’ Now repeat that statement in writing, “I deserve to be prosperous and wealthy,” and next to it write the next negative thought that occurs. Now, write a phrase removing the negative and inserting a positive word. Repeat that process several times and Viola - you have your own personal affirmations, just right for you. Try this and see YOUR results.

Triangualtion - 2nd Relationship Buster
by Christine Harvey
Dale Carnegie, author of 'How to Stop Worrying and Start Living,' advocates the avoidance of the 3 C's - Criticizing, Condemning, and Complaining.
Have you noticed how people complain to those around them about someone else, rather than going directly back to the source of the problem? According to university research, this is called 'triangulation.' And, it's the second biggest reason for relationship failures, (after avoidance of communication,) both on the job and in our personal lives.
What holds us back from going to the source of our problem rather than complaining to our peers? It's fear. Fear of confrontation. It's anger. Anger caused by misconceptions. And anger caused by jumping to conclusions. So we seek solace and compassion from others.
But in complaining to others several negative things happen. First and foremost is that the situation is never cleared up using that misguided method of problem solving. In fact, the problem escalates. Usually the person we complain about hears it second hand, and feels betrayed. That sets up an even more negative spiral than existed before. Often the source of the complaint is a misunderstanding in the first place and could easily be solved with one-on-one communication. By going directly to the supposedly offending person, we could say, "Joe, did you really mean that I wasn't doing a good job when you said what you said at the meeting this morning?" Joe is likely to say, "No, not at all. I meant something entirely different. I really appreciate your work."
Now, here's a challenge for you. I'd like you to look at this from a new perspective. WHAT CAN YOU DO next time this happens in your environment? Why not THINK OF YOURSELF AS A LEADER and role model in showing better ways for the world to operate? People are actually looking for effective ways to problem solve, but don't always know how. They continue to do what their parents did, or what they've been exposed to. Thus, dysfunctional relationships go down from generation to generation, from work place to work place, from country to country. YOU - YES YOU - CAN DO MUCH TO IMPACT THE WORLD AROUND YOU! Why not suggest a direct approach, and support them in their new behavior? From small acorns do large oak trees grow.
3 SECOND FOCUS TIP - The next time you encounter 'triangulation' - people complaining to you about another person, suggest that they go directly to the person in question and ask for clarification. Explain that there may be a miscommunication, and if the shoe was on the other foot, surely your friend would rather have it clarified directly, than have it spread around and not have a chance to clarify him or herself. By doing this, you'll be bringing the world back to a positive vibration, AND you'll be reinforcing a good behavior for yourself the next time you're tempted to complain rather than resolve!
Try this and let us know YOUR results.
